EPERE seminars for parents

On February 18, the first seminar day of the EPERE (Enhancing the Participation and Ensuring the Right to Education for Children with Intellectual Disability) project took place with financial support from the Swedish Institute.

Program

The focus of the day was strengthening the participation of children with intellectual disabilities in education under wartime conditions. The seminar was chaired by Hanna Slozanska.

Svitlana Loza delivered a presentation on comprehensive child development assessment, emphasizing the organization and implementation of an interdisciplinary approach. Participants gained practical insights into systematic developmental observation and collaboration with Inclusive Resource Centers to properly identify educational needs.

Certificates

Iryna Korol addressed psychological and pedagogical support for children with intellectual disabilities within educational institutions. The discussion focused on effective communication with school support teams and strategies for adapting the learning environment to meet individual needs.

On February 19, the second seminar day of the EPERE project, supported by the Swedish Institute, focused on psychological and pedagogical support for parents and children, particularly self-regulation, stress management, and partnership.

Program

The session was chaired by Kateryna Bondar.

Maryna Lyasa and Dyakonova Nadiya presented the experience of dark and light sensory rooms as well as sensory kitchens as tools for creating a unified space for children, parents, and teachers. Participants explored sensory development practices applicable both in Inclusive Resource Centers and at home, discussed the integrative potential of sensory kitchens, and examined the role of movement in sensory-motor correction. Parents gained practical guidance on creating a supportive sensory environment at home and using everyday routines, such as cooking, to foster sensory integration.

Certificates

Olena Shestopalova introduced the use of social stories to establish safe routines and support emotional regulation during air raid alerts. Special attention was given to visual algorithms as tools for reducing anxiety and managing behavior in emergency situations.

On February 20, the third seminar day within the EPERE project, supported by the Swedish Institute, addressed everyday life support, autonomy, and communication of children with intellectual disabilities in wartime and crisis contexts.

Program

The session was chaired by Hanna Varina.

Professor Alla Dushka and Viktoriia Mironova focused on fostering autonomy and communication skills through structured daily routines. Participants examined strategies for integrating alternative and augmentative communication into everyday life and promoting independence through predictable, structured practices.
Oksana Maliuha provided practical recommendations for parents supporting children with intellectual disabilities during wartime. The session emphasized crisis planning, adapting parenting strategies, and maintaining stability and predictability for children in prolonged conditions of uncertainty.
